The annual Highlex AGM and Conference is the highlight of the Highway Electrical sector calendar, with an exhibition and technical papers during the day, topped by an evening gala dinner and the presentation of the ASLEC-HEMSA Industry Awards.

The last ASLEC-HEMSA annual conference and exhibition was held at the prestigious Celtic Manor Hotel  and featured the  ASLEC/HEMSA industry awards. Over three hundred and fifty people attended the event from a broad cross section of the Highway Electrical Industry.

Association of Signals, Lighting and other highway Electrical Contractors


ASLEC was formed in 1952 as an Association of trading organisations, with the prime objective of representing the interests of Companies operating in the highway electrical contracting market and to exchange knowledge and information and by mutual helpfulness to enable each to attain maximum efficiency. There are over 80 Members, whose contracting activities range from street lighting, traffic signals and signs to highway communications and camera systems.
Membership of ASLEC is open to trading concerns and local authority direct services organisations operating in the highway electrical contracting market.

Highway Electrical Manufacturers and Suppliers Association


HEMSA was formed in November 1998 with the main purpose of securing the interests of its members by the exchange of knowledge and information and to promote standards of quality and service. There are currently approximately 30 Members.
HEMSA organise and host topical seminars 3-4 times a year at a variety of venues up and down the country. They are complimented by exciting and vibrant exhibitions keeping the key decision makers in the industry fully informed and up to date with product developments.

Highway Electrical Academy



The HEA has been formed by the Sector Scheme Committee & Registration Board which oversees and administers the Highway Electrical Registration Scheme, covering public lighting, traffic signs and traffic signals.
The HEA's aim is to assist in creating and sustaining a culture of competence in the Highway Electrical Industry through:
  • Working in partnership with industry
  • Agreeing & reviewing standard assessor guidance
  • Coordinating work involved in the development and delivery of the Training Specification
  • Agreeing and monitoring standards in the content and delivery of training on behalf of Lantra Awards
