The Highway Electrical Industry falls between the two disciplines of civil and electrical engineering. This has also been the case for the journals that serve the industry - they are too generalised and do not fully understand the issues and needs that affect the highway electrical business.

Highway Electrical News was launched in 1996 as a bi-monthly news journal to resolve this problem. It is sponsored by Association of Street Lighting Electrical Contractors and exists solely to serve the highway electrical industry and no other. There are many grave issues affecting our industry, which we must have a means of airing and discussing. Highway Electrical News examines lamp replacement policies, CCT, Best Value, the Ageing Highway Electrical Infrastructure, Health & Safety and many other vital issues.

Highway Electrical News provides information about business developments in the Highway Electrical Industry, and also promotes companies and provides a means of allowing companies to promote themselves.

It offers not only display advertising, but a product and company news section. There are regular features on private companies, contractors, manufacturers and suppliers and regularly publish supplements on highway electrical equipment. Highway Electrical News is always interested in any news on companies - contracts won, awards for excellence, change of name.

Highway Electrical News is sent to Local Authorities - County Surveyors, Directors of Technical Services, Heads of Highways & Transport sections and Lighting Engineers at all County Councils, London Boroughs, Metropolitan Boroughs, many District Councils and all Unitary Authorities in England, Scotland and Wales. All major street lighting, communications and civil engineering contractors are sent copies to head offices and regional depots.

Manufacturers and suppliers of all varieties of highway electrical equipment receive Highway Electrical News, as well as many consultants nationwide. Copies are sent to governmental and other regulatory bodies, such as the Highways Agency and Departments of Transport and Environment.
